Getting a bus is a perfect way to travel around Chiang Rai and to nearby provinces, in case you don’t have a car. For you information, there are total two bus stations at Chiang Rai. You may wonder why. Well, let’s get to know the reason.
First, let’s start with the information of the first station.
The Old Chiang Rai Bus Station
The first one, or the old one, is located in the heart of Chiang Rai, next to Night Bazaar. Therefore, during the night, you can have a little shopping there.
The old one is mainly for traveling within the province, or from Chiang Rai to nearby provinces like Chiangmai and Lampang. However, before you want to travel from Chiang Rai to somewhere else, you should track the information first, in order to see whether the start point is at the old one or not.
While you wait for your bus, you can buy some snack and light food to eat. There are many shops around the station.
How to get to The Old Chiang Rai Bus Station
You may hail a motorcycle, a truck, or a tricycle. It’s not difficul to find them. They’re all around.
The New Chiang Rai Bus Station
The New Chiang Rai Bus Station is on the suburban side of the province. It’s mainly for people who want to travel from Chiang Rai to somewhere far away, for an example, Bangkok.
This one is quite bigger than the previous one. There will be many tour buses from various tourism companies parking in the station. Around the station, you should see headquarters of some tourism companies in Chiang Rai.
How to get to The New Chiang Rai Bus Station
Same as the previous one, you may just hire any public vehicle to give you a ride. A motorcycle and a truck will be best.
