The special factor of Mae Ngad Sam is that it was established because of King Bhumibol, the 9th king of Thailand. In the year 1977, the project was started by Royal Irrigation Department. The dam was built by filling dirt up. Its height is about 58 metres. Its length is about 1,950 metres. Its area is about 16 square kilometres. Its highest capacity is about 26.5 million cubic metres.
Beside of being a water source, it is also a tourist attraction. You can go in and relax yourself. The admission fee is only 20 Baht. You can find restaurants to eat something. How to get there
There are total 4 routes for you to go to Mae Ngad Dam.
- To use the Highway No.107 (Chiang Mai-Fang). Go along Ping River, passing Chiang Dao Forest on the left side.
- To use the Highway No.1001(Chiang Mai-Praw). Pass Mae Tang Forest and Mae Ngad Forest. You should find the junction that lead you to the Mae Tang Irrigation Reservoir. Finally, you will find your way to the officr of the national park.
- To use the Highway No.1150(Ping Kong, Chiang Dao-Praw). Just go through the upper side of Chiang Dao Forest and Mae Ngad Forest.
- To use the Highway No.1150(Chiang Rai). You have to go through Doi Saked County to reach Wiang Pa Pao County first.
