Huay Pu Keng is a fairly well known “Kayan” Long Neck village in Mae Hong Son
Huay Pu Keng situated in Mae Hong Son, northern Thailand, is a small village populated primarily by the Kayan (long-neck) and Kayaw (big-ears) Karenni ethnic sub-groups.
Baan Huay Pu Keng or Baan Nam Phiang Din is located in the Thai-Burmese border and it is considered to be the oldest Palong (Long-neck Karen) village in Thailand since the tribal people moved to the country many decades ago. In the Long-neck Karen’s Village, visitors are able to expereince unique lifestyle as well as talk to and take pictures with Long-neck Karens. Moreover, visitors are able to buy souveniors such as necklaces, clothes, and bags from the tribal people. The only way to reach Baan Nam Phiang Din Long-neck Karen’s Village is to take a boat ride in which visitors can also enjoy scenic Pai River along the way.
How to get to Huay Pu Keng :
Huay Pu Keng Long Neck village is another popular day tour in Mae Hong Son. When you leave Mae Hong Son on the 108 in a southerly direction, you pass the village of Huay Dua. Here you can charter a long tail boat and ride on the Pai River to the long-neck village of Huay Pu Keng. Boats travel 15km downstream to the long neck village of Huay Pu Keng. It takes approximately 1 hours to reach Baan Huay Pu Keng and costs 900 Baht for maximum 7 passengers.
