Khun Nan National Park ‘Temporarily stay in the middle of mountains with fair prices.’
If your vacation is approaching, it’s a good idea to go camping in a forest with your family. You may have seen this activity through many cartoons and movies, for examples, Beethoven(the movie franchises about a St.Bernard dog named Beethoven), Doraemon etc. You should have known how fun it look. Therefore, let’s give it a try.
Find a forest to go camping is not difficult. For your information, northern Thailand is one of the best. Many national parks are waiting for you and your family.
Today, we have a place to suggest to you and also a quick schedule for your camping. The schedule may be adapted by you later, for your own convenience.
The place we would like to introduct here is Khun Nan National Park in Nan Province.
The Story of Khun Nan National Park
In 1996, Doi Phu Ka National Park sent information to Office of Natural Resources Conservation. The information said, a 620-square-kilometre plentiful green forest had been found in the east. Then, one year later, Mr.Sonchai Lacharoj, a forestry scholar, observed the area superficially.
And, two years later, Royal Forest Department considered the area until they were sure that the area was really plentiful enough to be a national park, the area was finally announced as a brand-new national park, ‘Khun Nan National Park’.
Landscape and Natural Resource
The landscape of the national park mostly consists of high mountains, with Doi Pee Pun Nam as the highest one(about 1,745 metres).
The whole area is about 148.6 square kilometres. There are different types of forests: montane forest and rain forest. Many rare plant species can be found. For the animals, there are mostly small ones like warthogs, squirrels, hedgehogs. But there are bears too.
When to travel?
In fact, you can go to Khun Nan National Park during any season you want. But if you’re seeking for our suggestion, we suggest that you travel during winter, as the air won’t be hot and you will be able to see nice fog around mountains. Just be sure to have a thick jacket with you, or you will get too cold.
Camping
First, there are admission fees at this national park.
A Thai Tourist: 20 Baht(Adult), 10 Baht(Child)
A Foreign Tourist: 100 Baht(Adult), 50 Baht(Child)
For your information, there aren’t shelters at the national park. But consider that as a good chance of yours, as you will sleep in a tent in the middle of forest.

- A tent

- An ukulele
- A ball for football game
- Some portable exercise equipments, for an example, a dumbbell
- A set of small chairs and tables
- Thick costumes
and any other things that you think you’ll need
If it’s your first time at Khun Nan National Park, you may just spend a night there. But you just have to reach the national park in the morning, in order to have enough time to set up your tent and do all activities.
On the first day of your arrival, after getting your tent done, you will want to eat something for the very first thing. Take your food to eat near a mountain or in the middle of field somewhere, or near Sapun Waterfall. Just put your mat on the ground and share a circle with your family, then eat and enjoy your time.
For the lunch time, you may eat in front of your tent, sitting at your table set.
In the evening, let’s watch the sunset together. After the sun is gone, let’s share a circle with your family again, sing, play ukulele and eat snack together.
Don’t forget to sleep early when you’re at the national park, as you will sleep enough and be able to get up early in the morning.
For your next day, in the morning, let’s eat something quick in front of your tent. Then you should take a leisure walk around and play some fun sport, like football, in order to stimulate your digestion. After lunch time, don’t forget to go hiking along those hiking paths.
How to get there
Khun Nan National Park is located in Bo Klua County, Nan Province. Of course, you should be in Bo Klua County first. Look for the Highway 1081. Keep driving along it carefully for about 4 kilometres. Don’t turn to any other directions. You will reach the national park soon.
