The place, Mae Ngao National Park, is where you should enjoy your vacation and forget all stress.
Mae Ngao National Park is national park in Mae Hong Son Province, with about 412.2 millions square metres area.
The national park mainly consists of high mountains and many types of forests: mixed forest, pine-dipterocarp forest, mountain forest etc. Beside, there are also many kinds of animals, for examples, monkey, owl, squirrel, fox etc. The atmosphere looks very lovely and joyful, like in some movies. This place is really worthy of being visited.
Especially, if you are a nature lover or looking forward to a peaceful vacation, you’re gonna love this place.
By visiting Mae Ngao National Park, you are able to join many activities.
- Go rafting along Mae Ngao river : Have fun and make your heart feel fresh with cool water drizzle and nice scenery around.
- Visit the Karen village by a boat, just to learn new culture and lifestyles.
- Have a nice picnic on the shore of Ologro Waterfall : The Waterfall is a large and beautiful waterfall with the flowing water throughout the year, situated in the north of Ban Om-loh (near Mae-ngao River). The Waterfall is about 150 meters high, originating from Oloh-gro Gully. There are virgin forests in the area of the Waterfall but no vehicle route is built to access the Waterfall, except a jungle route, which takes you 2 nights and 3 days for round trip on foot (on the way to the Waterfall. This waterfall is located just within the village of Karen people, you need to stay overnight at the Karen’s village, then, travel on foot for approximately 3 hours to the Waterfall; and on the way back home, you need to stay overnight at the Karen’s village for another night).
- Take out your tent and set up a camp : You will want to spend at least 2 or 3 nights at the national park. You can’t possibly complete your whole tour in just one day. That won’t be enough for you to admire every beautiful spots. Therefore just give yourself a chance. Set up a camp and don’t forget to wake up early to see thick fog and nice view on Doi Pui Luang. You can choose to set up your own tent or just book a shelther. There are restrooms for service, of course.
- Mae Wa-luang Waterfall : The Waterfall is a beautiful multi-step waterfall, situated at Ban Mae Wa-luang of Tah Song-yang District, Tak Province. The Waterfall originated from Mae-wa Gully. You may start the travelling by walking from the National Park’s office and on the way to the Waterfall, you can view different kinds of wild plants and strange birds.
- Mae La-or Waterfall : The Waterfall, originating from Mae La-or Gully, is situated near the route of Mae-sod – Mae Sa-riang and flowing into Mae-ngao River. And you may travel on foot for approximately 400 meters.
How to get there
Mae Ngao National Park is located at Ban Mae Ngao, Mae Suad District, Sob Moei County, Mae Hong Son Province.
You may start your trip from Chiang Mai downtown. Try to drive along the Highway No.108 until you reach Mae Sariang County. Then just switch yo the Highway No.105 instead. It will require about 25 kilometres before you can reach the area of Sob Moei County. Finally, keep going for another 15 kilometres and you will reach Ban Mae Ngao.
