Siam Insect Zoo ‘All you can learn about the world of insects’
Insects may not be interesting animals for most everyone, but they’re still a part of ecological system anyway. In our world, there are many kinds of creatures and all of them need to depend on each other, in order to live. That’s why insects are not less important than other animals.

Have you ever heard of ‘Siam Insect Zoo’? If you haven’t, it is a zoo in Chiang Mai, Thailand, that contains only insects. Your children and yourself will absolutely enjoy seeing those little things around.
Ones of the most popular tourists attractions in Chiang Mai are zoos, of course, including this insect zoo. Located in Mae Rim County, Siam Insect Zoo keeps countless kinds of insects more than you can ever imagine, both alive and stuffed ones.
At the place, you will find the ticket box at its entrance. The admission fees are affordable. For a Thai adult, it costs 80 Baht. For a Thai child, it costs 60 Baht. For a foreign adult, it costs 200 Baht. And, lastly, for a foreign child, it costs 100 Baht.
After getting yourself a ticket, just walk right it. There are two separated zones of the zoo. The first zone is ‘The Learning Museum Zone’, which contains a series of marvelous collections of stuffed insects. They’re all locked up inside strong glass boxes. You will never know what kind of insect you will see, because there are a lot of them, even the rare and strange ones. Beside of the collections, there are also souvenirs like T-shirts and ornaments, for sale. You can buy some for yourself and friends.
The second zone are ‘Alive Insect Zone’. Following the name, this zone contains insects that aren’t dead. To put it another way, they can move around. In this zone, you will closely learn about lifestyles of every insects. There are some kinds of dangerous insects too, but don’t worry, because there will be the authorities looking after you and your children. Alive Insect Zone include a bunch of butterflies in a huge glass cage and even giant scorpions. You can touch them if you want to, but don’t forget to do this in front of the eyes of the zoo’s authorities only, for your own safety.
The zoo may be not very large, because insects are not large animals. But the area is peaceful and natural. Beside of being a good learning source for your children, it is also a good relaxing place for you if you feel stress. You know, it will be nice for you to go out and see little living things in their nature. This should comfort your anxious mind.

How to get there
Siam Insect Zoo is located at 23/4, Area 1, Mae Ram District, Chiang Mai Province.
The best way to go is to drive a car. First of all, you need to look for the way to Mae Sa Waterfall first. Then, about 2 kilometres before you reach the waterfall, you will see the small entrance. That’s right. Just turn your car into that way. Remember, you have to be extra careful when driving along the road. However, Siam Insect Zoo is on the same block as Monkey School, or Mae Sa Waterfall 6th Block. Just drive into the block and keep going for about 500 metres. Then you should find your destination on your right hand.
If you want to be more sure, you can use Google Map on your smartphone. But don’t depend on the route the application chooses for you too much. It will be better if you try to look at signs around you by yourself.

Mae Sa Waterfall is an impressive eight level waterfall with a small plunge pool for swimming in. This famous 8-tiered waterfall located at the Km. 7 along the Mae Rim-Samoeng road is a popular recreation spot to unwind with lush natural setting, lush trees and fresh breeze all year round.
Touch those fluffy tigers closely and take photos with them, before uploading to your social media. Don’t worry about your safety. There will be authorities to look after you when you’re going to get near the tigers. Just follow the zoo’s rules and what authorities tell you to do.
Mae Sa Elephant Kingdom is featured on one of the most popular Elephant camp in Chiang Mai. Mae Sa Elephant Kingdom is perfectly located along the side of Mae Sa River and surrounded by beautiful forest.
Established in 1992 to honor HM Queen Sirikit, the garden features several highlights including a Rainforest Glasshouse where you get to walk amid abundant kinds of plants from all tropical forests in Asia. There are a number of walking trails provided but also feel free to walk around and enjoy the lush green without any orders.

Many people may not fancy snakes. But, for those who love this kind of reptile, they should visit this snake farm. There are many species of snakes being exhibited. Beside, there will be some exciting performances between men and snakes too.
- Mae Rim Gater Farm
To see how alligators live, then visit this place. There are a bunch of alligators within the area. Also, there are challenging performances between men and huge alligators. Tourists are able to go down and take photos with them too, under the strict care of zoo’s authorities, of course.
- Darapirom Palace
If you are the one who fall in love with the history of Thailand or antique things, don’t ever miss this place. Darapirom Palace is located just nearby Mae Rim County Office. The admission fee costs only 20 Baht! Yes, that’s right. You aren’t hearing it wrong. This is all you have to pay. Then you will have your opportunity of going inside and seeing all glorious, luxurious and valuable traditional architectures. You will feel like walking back in to the past, at the time when this palace was once the residence of Princess Dara Rasmi, who was a spouse of King Chulalongkorn, the 5th king of Thailand.
