Wat Hua Wiang ‘Pay respect to Phra Chao Paralakhaeng.’
Speaking of one of the most respectable temples in Mae Hong Son, surely ‘Wat Hua Wiang’ can’t be forgotten.
The temple ‘Wat Hua Wiang’ is also known as ‘Wat Klang Wiang’. It was built in the year 1863. You may wonder why the temple is called like that. Well, the true reason started long time ago. It is belived that the temple was built on the head of Mae Hong Son downtown. The English word ‘head’ and the Thai word ‘hua’ share the same meaning. That is the reason why this temple is called ‘Wat Hua Wiang’.
However, as time went by, many houses and buildings were established and that caused the Hua Wiang temple not to be located on the head of the town anymore. But that is not a big deal, as the beauty of the temple has never gone anywhere.
Now, if you go to Wat Hua Wiang, you will find yourself in the middle of quiet natural surroundings. There are grass fields and trees around. There are many stunning architectures, for examples, the Shan-Burmese wooden vihara in grey color, and, of course, Phra Cha Paralakhaeng, the holy Lord Buddha statue of the temple. For Phra Cha Paralakhaeng, it is the highlight of the temple. You shouldn’t leave without seeing or paying respect to the statue first. The statue looks so glorious in golden color and neat carvings.
Beside, there are also a large white pagoda, which you should be admired by you. There are also under-roof benches for you to sit, in case you are exhausted and feel like you’re going to be burnt up by the sun.
It is a small temple, but it should never make you feel disappointed. If you’re done with all architectures in the temple, you can just walk around, have a sightseeing, and take some nice pictures.
