But the best part of wat Phra That Mae Chedi is ‘the museum of ancient item’, which makes it different from other temples. The museum was built by the abbot of the temple, in the hope of preserving valuable history for new-aged people. Inside the museum, there are many ancient exhibitions, for examples, amulets, utensils, Buddha statues etc. These stuffs were mostly found at an abandoned temple. Some of them were donated by monks and villagers. But all of them are really old and rare. Beside of the museum, you can never miss ‘Wang Matcha. This is in fact a big pond full of millions of fishes. It is located within the area of the temple. You will feel totally relaxed, seeing lovely fishes swimming around the water. Don’t forget to take their photos. You can feed them if you want to. A bag of fish food is not expensive at all. Just purchase one. However, if you just want to see those fishes without feeing them, you will not have to pay for anything. Everything will be free in that case. But if you have a car with you, 29 Baht for an admission fee is required.

How to get there 

Wat Phrathat Mae Chedi is located at Ban Mae Chedi, Wiang Pa Pao County, Chiang Rai Province.

It will be best if you have your own car, because, if that so, all you have to do is keep going along the road Chiang Rai – Chiang Mai, in order to reach Wiang Pa Pao County. That is quite easy.

If you travel to Chiang Rai by a plane and didn’t rent any car, this may cause a little difficulties for you, as you must take a bus instead. You may get exhausted. However, if that doesn’t matter to you, it’s OK and probably be fun to be in a public vehicle and see stunning scenery during the way to the temple.

There are many bus lines for you to choose, for examples, Chiang Rai – Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai-Mae Kha Chan. To get into one of these bus, you can’t be late. These buses are arranged on a strict departure schedule. Everything is set up. If you are not punctual, you will definitely miss them.

These buses can give you a ride to Wiang Pa Pao, but they can not take to the temple directly. After you get out of your bus, you have to walk on your feet or hire a truck instead.

These following places are not far from Wat Phra That Mae Chedi. Surely they are good tourist attractions. Be sure to visit them before leaving Chiang Rai.

If you feel kinda exhausted after touring the temple, you may want to make a little stop at this place. Mae Ka Chan Hot Springs is only 12 kilometres away from the temple. You have to travel for only 13 minutes. As soon as you arrive, you can take a bath in a mineral pond, boil eggs in a hot spring, or just soak your feet in hot water. The hot springs there are guaranteed to be totally natural. Just have fun!

Only 20 minutes of travel and you will reach it! This national park is like some kind of heaven. It is full of plants and animals like birds, bears, monkeys, and falcons. Beside, there are many beautiful spots, for examples, Mae Tho Waterfall, Khun Chae Waterfall, or the sightseeing spot Doi Lanka. Feel free to enjoy your time there!
