As you may already know, Hmong is a mountain ethnic group. You may get used to the ones that wear lovely black costumes around Chiang Mai. But there is another group of Hmong, which wear white costumes. These are White Hmong Hill Tribe at Khun Chang Kian, in Chiang Mai also.
White Hmong Hill Tribe live in a peaceful village at Khun Chang Kian. You shouldn’t skip visiting them. If you somehow have a chance of seeing Thai Sakura or Phaya Sua Krong at Khun Chang Kian, you should explore a little further to their village. Don’t just leave yet.
White Hmong of Khun Chang Kian is like many other ethnic groups in various tourism areas of Chiang Mai. They’re friendly and kind. If you enter their village, you don’t have to feel afraid or awkward at all. Instead, feel free to say hello and befriend them. You may also meet some lovely little Hmong children, which you can play with them and take their photos.
Also, these people their lives simply. Their houses were made of wood.
That’s not the end of that. Beside of making friends with the ethnic group, you may want to take a big tour, seeing lifestyles around the village. You will want to see the villager doing their local handicrafts. You can purchase some as souvenirs. Moreover, there are cups of coffee for you to drink. These coffee are made with hand-spinning machines, so they taste specially good. You will get the true taste of coffee.
How to get there
In order to reach the Hmong Village, you need to reach Khun Chang Kian first, which is located in Muang County, Chiang Mai Province.
If you take a personal car, just use the same path to Doi Suthep and Mong Hill Tribe Village. The path may be a little bit steep and narrow, so drive carefully.
In case you don’t have a personal car, you can hire a truck from the ascent to Phra That Doi Suthep all day. The travel fee in 200 Baht per one person. This price includes the going trip and the leaving trip.
